Lucas has spent the last 10 years operating as a heavy civil contractor and has built a reputation for problem-solving and building to the highest standards of safety and quality.
Lucas began his career with Kiewit Australia, serving as an engineer and superintendent on the oil and gas mega-project, Chevron's Wheatstone LNG Export Terminal in Western Australia. The project was a construction engineering crucible through which a first-class education in contracting was delivered. Working side by side with contractors such as Bechtel, Mammoet, CB&I, and Lang O'Rourke demonstrated the importance of coordination and communication among contractors working intimately on a project of such a massive scale.
After three years in Australia, Lucas returned to the United States to operate in Florida. He first served on the Orlando International Airport Intermodal Terminal before becoming the General Superintendent and Project Manager for the C-6 contract of the United States Army Corps of Engineers' (USACE) Herbert Hoover Dike Rehabilitation Program. The project became the standard of excellence for the USACE's rehabilitation program, finishing ahead of schedule and under budget and to a standard of quality unmatched in the program. The team's performance led to several more contract awards.
"For me was an honor to work with such a group of outstanding professional. I WISH all the contractors I have had were as good as the group that work at C-6."
José I. Rosa Serrano - USACE
Lucas then moved on to serve as a superintendent on the Selmon West Extension in Tampa, Florida. AECOM acted as the design partner for this design-build contract for a new signature bridge through one of the most congested transportation arteries in Tampa. His innovative concepts like a mobile and modular rebar jig solved difficult logistical challenges across the project.
The Selmon West Extension offered the opportunity to plan and lead critical operations of all scopes and sizes, including but not limited to the following:
Critical lifts in excess of 95% of the crane's capacity with logistical challenges and liquidated damages assessed for delays
Schedule critical structural concrete pours with post tentioning and challenging mass concrete requirements, including deck pours
Support of excavation with extensive dewatering including sheetpile, sliderail shoring, conventional trench boxes, and engineered slopes
Mass excavation and zoned embankment built to stringent moisture and compaction requirements
Casting of pre-cast Florida I-Beams and concrete pile
As the Project Manager of the 25th Avenue Grade Separation in San Mateo, California, Lucas led the team constructing this bid-build contract with the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (JPB ). This project offered another opportunity to build in a congested location with many stakeholders invested in the success of the project.
Lucas holds a bachelor of science in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri and is a registered PE in Colorado, Missouri, and Arizona. Other certifications Lucas holds are the OSHA 30 Hour Safety Certification, OSHA Confined Space Training, Lock Out Tag out Procedures, and many other operational safety training certifications.
